Liebe Fans und Besucher der Ring*Con 2009,
wir stecken noch mitten im Con-Blues – es war eine absolut fantastische Convention – und nutzen diesen Blues jetzt für eine kleine Nachbetrachtung und natürlich für die versprochene Stellungnahme.
Trotz der in diesem Jahr immens vielen Absagen habt ihr, die Fans und Besucher, wirklich das beste aus der Con gemacht und habt euch die Stimmung dadurch nicht verderben lassen. Ganz im Gegenteil: So viel Spaß hatten wir noch nie und wir sahen selten so viele glückliche und zufriedene Gesichter.
Zur kurzfristigen Absage von Tom Felton:
Wie viele von euch bei Twitter lesen konnten, hat sich Tom Felton selbst in einige Widersprüche verheddert und es wird Zeit, dass wir euch hier mal den tatsächlichen Ablauf des Dramas schildern.
John Alcantar, der Manager von Tom Felton hatte kurz vor der Ring*Con Andeutungen gemacht, dass Tom Terminprobleme hat und evtl. nicht das komplette Wochenende kommen könnte. Wir haben daraufhin vorgeschlagen, dass er entweder Samstag und Sonntag, oder nur Samstag, oder nur Sonntag kommen soll. Das Ganze konnte dann bis zur Con nicht vollends geklärt werden, aber es gab keinen Grund, Tom Felton von der Gästeliste zu streichen, da einfach nicht klar war, wann er denn nun wirklich auf der Con sein würde. Vor allem war nicht die Rede davon, dass er gar nicht kommen würde.
Am Donnerstag, den 1. Oktober, Abends, wurde dann John Alcantar von uns am Flughafen abgeholt und genau in diesem Moment erhielten wir die bittere Mitteilung, dass Tom Felton gar nicht kommen kann – oder kommen will, wie auch immer.
Diese Absage war nicht nur für euch, die Fans und Besucher der Ring*Con 2009, ein herber Schlag ins Gesicht, mindestens genauso schlimm, wenn nicht noch schlimmer, war es für uns. Es ist einfach nur bitter, Fans vor Ort erklären zu müssen, dass ausgerechnet der Stargast, auf den sie sich riesig gefreut haben und wegen dem sie extra nach Bonn gefahren sind, nicht auf der Con ist. Ebenso bitter war es für uns zu sehen, dass viele Fans für Tageskarten gekommen und wieder gegangen sind, nachdem sie die Ankündigung über die Absage von Tom Felton am Flipchart gesehen haben.
Binnen weniger Stunden ist es uns zwar durch gute Kontakte gelungen, noch Josh Herdman und Angelica Mandy aus Harry Potter zu bekommen, aber –um dem Ganzen noch die Krone aufzusetzen – musste dann auch Josh Herdman wieder wegen Krankheit absagen. Mehr Pech kann man doch als Veranstalter kaum haben, vor allem wenn man dann noch die kurzfristigen Absagen von Dylan Neal, der überraschend eine neue Rolle bekommen hat und drehen musste, bedenkt. Noch schlimmer erging es uns mit Alex Meraz aus Twilight, der mit gepacktem Koffer am Set stand, der Dreh einer Szene sich verzögert hat und er auf Anweisung von Summit, der Produktionsfirma von Twilight, nicht nach Deutschland fliegen durfte.
Wir möchten uns bei euch, den Fans und Besuchern der Ring*Con 2009, für die ganzen Absagen entschuldigen. Ebenso möchten wir uns dafür entschuldigen, dass diese Absagen nicht mehr auf der Website der Ring*Con publik gemacht worden sind. Ein Vorwurf eurerseits, der absolut gerechtfertigt ist, aber im Chaos, das verbunden war mit den ganzen Änderungen, Ersatz beschaffen, Programm ändern usw. hat wirklich niemand mehr daran gedacht. Wir versprechen euch aber, dass – falls so etwas noch einmal vorkommen sollte, was wir natürlich nicht hoffen – ab der nächsten Convention die Website der Ring*Con auch während des Con-Wochenendes aktualisiert wird. Hierzu werden wir extra jemand aus dem Team dafür abstellen.
Wir haben mit vielen Fans und Besuchern auf der Convention persönlich über die Absagendramen gesprochen und hier geht unser großer Dank an euch, für euer Verständnis, für eure Anteilnahme und vor allem dafür, dass ihr alle das Beste aus dieser Ring*Con gemacht habt. Und es war einfach nur eine fantastische Con, mit vielen Kostümen, tollen Panels, super gelaunten Stargästen, aktiven Fans, tollen Parties und schönen Gesprächen. Viel öfter als sonst kamen Fans zu einer kleinen Unterhaltung auf uns zu und das hat uns wirklich sehr gefreut. Wir möchten euch alle noch besser kennen lernen, darum sprecht uns auf den Cons einfach an, wir genießen jede Unterhaltung mit euch.
Wir möchten uns auch bei den zahlreichen Herr der Ringe Fans entschuldigen, sollte in den letzten Monaten der Eindruck entstanden sein, daß ihr zu kurz kommt. Das war keinesfalls unsere Absicht, im Gegenteil, Tolkien ist und bleibt einer der Hauptpunkte dieser Convention. Das wird sich auch nie ändern. Alleine der Film „Born of Hope“ sorgte für eine Gänsehaut, unsere Gäste aus LotR waren allesamt super drauf und haben auch für entsprechende Stimmung gesorgt. Wir selbst sind noch im Conblues und wünschen uns die Con zurück.
An dieser Stelle unser Aufruf an begnadete Graphiker und Photoshop Zauberer. Wir benötigen dringend ein Artwork für einen völlig neuen Flyer (ein Flyer der durch seine tolle Graphik und Fotos Neugierige Fans anlocken soll, ein Flyer wo weder Anmeldeformular noch AGB´s stehen, denn diese stehen auf der Webseite wo sich die Fans sowieso anmelden). Bitte schickt uns Eure Vorschläge an dirkb@fedcon.de – der Gewinner des neuen Flyerdesigns bekommt eine Freikarte für die nächste RingCon!! Der Flyer soll Elemente enthalten von: Herr der Ringe, Twilight, Harry Potter und evtl. Vampire. Platzhalter für Fotos, evtl. Mittelerde Karte als Hintergrund – eurer Fantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt!
So, und nun lasst uns nach vorne blicken – zur Ring*Con 2010. Die neue Website ist online und schon bald – früher als ihr es in den letzten Jahren gewohnt wart – werden die ersten Stargäste für 2010 angekündigt werden. Die Verhandlungen hierzu laufend bereits auf Hochtouren. Bleibt auch jetzt schon am Ball, es wird sich lohnen!

Dear fans and visitors of Ring*Con 2009,
We’re still having Con-Blues – it was an amazing Convention – and want to use this blues for a short retrospective and of course for the statement we promised you.
Despite the many cancellations we had this year, you – the fans and visitors – made the best of the Convention and didn’t let those cancellations ruin the mood. Quite the contrary: We have never had so much fun and have never seen so many happy and content faces.
Concerning Tom Felton’s short-dated cancellation:
As many of you read on Twitter, Tom Felton got entangled in contradictions and it’s time to tell you the true course of this drama. John Alcantar, Tom Felton’s Manager, had made hints shortly before the Convention that Tom may have problems concerning his schedule and that he may not be able to attend the Convention for the whole weekend. Thereupon we suggested that he should attend only on Saturday and Sunday or just Saturday or just Sunday. Things hadn’t been cleared completely before the Con but there was no reason to take Tom off the guest-list, because it wasn’t clear on which days he would be able to attend. Especially since there was never any mention that he would not attend at all.
On Thurday evening, October 1st, we picked up John Alcantar at the airport and right at this moment we got the bitter message that Tom Felton couldn’t make it at all – or didn’t want to attend, however.
The cancellation wasn’t only a punch in the face for you, the fans and visitors of Ring*Con 2009, it was equally terrible, if not worse, for us. It is really hard to tell the fans at the Convention that the guest star they were especially looking forward to and because of whom they came to Bonn, won’t be at the Convention. In addition to that it was very hard for us to see the fans that had come to buy daily tickets leave after they had read about Tom Felton’s cancellation on the flipchart.
Because of good associations we managed to get Josh Herdman and Angelica Mandy from Harry Potter for the Convention, but – to put the lid on everything - Josh Herdman had to cancel due to illness. As an organizer you can’t have tougher luck, especially considering Dylan Neal’s short-dated cancellation – he obtained a new role and had to shoot on the weekend. It was even worse for us when Alex Meraz from Twilight couldn’t make it. He was ready to leave the set, his bags were already packed, when the shooting of a scene got delayed and Summit, the production company of Twilight, ordered him to stay and not fly to Germany to attend Ring*Con.
We want to apologize to you, the fans and visitors of Ring*Con 2009, because of the many cancellations. In addition to that we want to apologize for the fact that the cancellations weren’t published on the website, which is a reproach from your side that is absolutely justified, but because of the chaos that resulted of the changes, the need to find replacement and modify the program etc., nobody even thought about it. But we promise that – should something like that happen again, which we don’t hope – from the next Convention on the Website will also be updated during the Convention Weekend. For this purpose we are especially going to assign someone from the team.
We had the chance to talk to a lot of fans and visitors at the Convention about the drama concerning the cancellations and we want to thank you all for your understanding, your sympathy and especially because you made the best of Ring*Con. It was an amazing Convention, with lots of costumes, great Q&A sessions, cheerful guest stars, energetic fans, fabulous parties and nice conversations. A lot of fans used the chance to approach us to for a little chat more often than usual, which we were really happy about. We want to get to know you all even better, so just talk to us at the Conventions, we enjoy every chance we get to chat with you.
We also want to apologize to the numerous Lord of the Rings fans - if you had the feeling that you came off badly in the last months. This was not the case at all, to the contrary, Tolkien is and will be one of the main subjects of this Convention. This won’t change. The movie “Born of Hope” created goose bumps and the actors from LotR were very nice and helped to create a fantastic mood. We are still in the middle of our Con-Blues and want to be back at the Convention.
At this point we want to invoke every gifted graphic designer and Photoshop magician. We badly need new artwork for a totally new flyer (a flyer that attracts new fans because of amazing graphics and photos, a flyer that doesn’t have an application form or business conditions on it, because those are on the website, where the fans register anyway). Please send your suggestions to dirkb@fedcon.de – the winner gets a free ticket for the next Ring*Con!! The flyer needs to contain elements of: Lord of the Rings, Twilight, Harry Potter and maybe vampires. Place markers for photos, maybe a map of Middle Earth as a background image – There’s no limit to your imagination!
Now let’s look forward – to Ring*Con 2010. The new Website is online and soon – sooner than you were used to in the last years – the first guest stars for 2010 will be announced. The negotiations are at full blast. Stay tuned, it will be worth it!

ich hab sehr mit euch gelitten, wegen all der Absagen. Mir tat das nicht nur für die Fans (wie ich ja auch einer bin), sondern auch für euch unendlich leid.

Mit dem Statement kann ich leben.
Werde es aber nächstes Jahr tunlichst vermeiden, mich auf einen einzelnen so arg zu freuen. Dann kann ich mir nämlich die 2 Stunden Trauerphase bei ner Absage sparen und gleich so viel Spaß haben wie dieses Wochenende!
